Lavender and Lambs Festival at Brittingham Farms set June 15

May 5, 2024

Brittingham Farms will host the 2nd Annual Lavender & Lambs Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 15, at 22518 Phillips Hill Road, Millsboro. The rain date is Sunday, June 16.

The 350-acre grain farm is now open to the public in its second year with a lavender essential oil distillery and a large lavender field for touring and picnics, along with a boutique farm store.

Attractions include 50 vendors, two bands, you-pick lavender in the field, pony rides from the Little Farm and food trucks. Tastings include lavender ice cream from the Frozen Farmer, lavender wine from Salted Vines and lavender beer from Revelation Craft Brewing. All beverages are made with the Brittinghams’ high-quality culinary lavender.

Brittingham Farms is proud to shepherd the heritage Leicester Longwool sheep, a breed brought to early America by George Washington. Starting at 1 p.m., sheep from the farm’s flock will be sheared in front of spectators by shearer Hoyt Emmons of Pennsburg, Pa.

Members of the John Dickinson Plantation Spinners Guild wearing colonial garb will be spinning wool on the front porch of the store, and Lewes Historical Society representatives will be present dyeing fleeces over a fire. The Delaware Farm Bureau mobile Ag Lab will also be on site for lessons on local agriculture. The farm distillery will be open and working, so guests will see lavender essential oil and lavender hydrosol (floral water) being produced.

Providing musical entertainment in the pavilion will be Heartland Band and Homestead Bluegrass Band. Bench seating is available, and patrons are welcome to bring their own folding chairs.

No dogs are permitted due to the presence of livestock and the farm’s contracts for culinary-grade lavender.

Tickets are $15 per person for anyone age 1 and above. Babies under a year old are admitted free, and strollers are welcome.
