April 30, 2024

Lewes in Bloom is sponsoring its fourth annual May Day decorating contest on Saturday, May 4.  Volunteers from the group hung a basket of fresh flowers on the door at Lewes City Hall as an example.

Mayor Andrew Williams stopped by Tuesday, April 30, to see the colorful display and show support for the competition. Lewes in Bloom is putting out the call for residents and businesses to hang a basket or bouquet of fresh flowers on their door or porch May 4, when the judging committee members will make their selections.

“It’s the kickoff to our season,” said Dianne Stevens, Lewes in Bloom board of advisors co-chair. “The competition is a way to get the community involved and beautify the city.”

Stevens said they had more than 50 entries as of April 30. The grand prize winner will receive a $250 cash prize donated by Active Adults Realty of Lewes. To register an entry, go to lewesinbloom.org/may-day. The deadline is Wednesday, May 1.

Stevens said Lewes in Bloom will begin planting for the season the week starting Monday, May 6.
