Breast cancer coalition’s annual update shares vital information

May 20, 2024

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition hosted the 26th Annual Breast Cancer Update May 15, offered virtually on Zoom and via a viewing party at Goldey-Beacom College.

This year’s theme, Conquering the Unknown While Rising Above a Breast Cancer Diagnosis, delivered a robust agenda and a strong lineup of industry expert speakers shining a light on topics ranging from exciting technological breakthroughs such as AI and mammography to important discussions including mental health and survivorship therapy, and life-changing techniques like alternatives available for breast reconstruction.

With over 170 total attendees, the event provided a wonderful platform for local medical professionals to share valuable information.

Attendees were presented with valuable information about cutting-edge technology. Dr. Diana Dickson-Witmer said, “CEM (contrast-enhanced mammograms) should replace MRI as the preferred contrast-enhanced breast imaging tool given its diagnostic accuracy, access, lowest cost and patient preference.”

The DBCC’s Annual Breast Cancer Update began as a small scientific meeting to update physicians about the latest trends in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Recognizing the importance of sharing the most up-to-date information, the Breast Cancer Update has grown into an annual educational conference offered free to the public.

Each year, offered at no cost to attend, the Breast Cancer Update features leading medical breast cancer panel experts and informational resources about the latest developments in treatment and care to breast cancer survivors and their families, physicians, nurses, students and allied health professionals. Healthcare professionals and students have the opportunity to earn CEUs and Contact Hours during the conference at no cost.

DBCC’s goal is to offer programming that empowers its community in the fight against breast cancer. The Annual Breast Cancer Update allows the organization to bring nationally renowned speakers in the breast cancer field and provides an opportunity for community education about the innovative research, treatment and programs available in Delaware.

The Breast Cancer Update depends on generous support from sponsors; those that made this year’s event possible are Delaware Health and Social Services, Daily State News, Gilead, ChristianaCare, ExactSciences, Genentech, Goldey-Beacom College, Hologic, Beebe Healthcare, Donna Stinson, AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, Gannett, USA Today Network and New Castle County Executive Office.
