Six different players scored in the Cape soccer team’s 7-0 defeat of Brandywine May 13 on Senior Night at Legends Stadium.

Sophomore Ava Brown struck first, taking a long clearing pass from Brianna Burrell and putting it past Brandywine goalie Robin Fleury-Steiner at the four-minute mark. She added another goal at 24 minutes off a pass from Ella Marinucci.

Lillian Holodick and Cadence McMahon scored less than a minute apart just three minutes later off helpers by Ava Brown and Emily Cook.

The Vikings weren’t finished there, as Makala VanDrunen struck the twine at the 29-minute mark off a pass from Anna Bender, and senior Haylie Rogers scored at 39 minutes unassisted.

The Vikings went into the halftime break up 6-0, but they wanted another senior to score, as Emily Cook took a Rogers pass and buried it for the 7-0 victory.

The Vikings outshot the Bulldogs 17-4 and held a 4-0 advantage in corners.

Cape goalies Brianna Burrell and Brynne Fox teamed for four saves, while Brandywine’s Fleury-Steiner and Yissel Lopez-Oseguera combined for 10 stops.

“I’m super pleased with the way we ended the season with three straight wins,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “The girls showed tremendous strength and fortitude to fight back to earn a winning record. I’m excited for next year to see what the returning players can do.”

The Vikings finish their season 8-7, while Brandywine finished at 9-5.

“I will miss this group of seniors,” said Kilby. “They are extremely hardworking, extremely talented and will do big things in the future. My hope is that they continue to be part of the game of soccer wherever they go.”
