April 8, 2024

Milton Elementary FAME students were recognized for their award-winning essays March 20 in a contest sponsored by the Children’s Beach House.

Students Gabrielle Talag, Azul Cantu, Lily Peltz, Seyarra Makle and Grace Martinez earned awards.

The contest was part of Children’s Beach House’s literacy and crafts collaboration with the FAME afterschool program, said Robin Betz of Americorps/DE, completing her service year at Children’s Beach House.

Using the topic Confident, Positive and Resilient, students had to write a 100-word piece that was evaluated for its use of punctuation, grammar and creativity, Betz said.

Chic-fil-A donated 60 dessert cards for all entrants, and an anonymous donor donated five $10 gift cards for second-grade, third-grade, fourth-grade and fifth-grade winners, as well as one random consolation winner.

The theme of the day was March Madness, Betz said, so winners also received a book from Children's Beach House about basketball achievers who have been confident, positive and resilient in their careers, such as Steph Curry, LeBron James and Caitlin Clark.
