RAL film screening to celebrate disability activism Sept. 16

August 26, 2024

The Rehoboth Art League is partnering with Film East to host a film screening and celebrate the art of activism.

The community is invited to watch a documentary directed by Ella Glendining, “Is There Anybody Out There?” at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, in the Corkran Gallery at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

Following the screening, Shelby Cooke, Film East head curator and RAL marketing assistant, will join Tina Sheing, a disability advocate and performance artist, to discuss how art and creativity can be used as tools for social activism and awareness.

Tickets for the event are free, but reservations are required. To save a seat, go to rehobothartleague.org.

“Is There Anybody Out There?” follows Glendining, who was born with a rare disability that has resulted in her having short legs and using a wheelchair. Having never encountered anyone else with this same disability, she took to the internet to ask, “Is there anybody out there like me?” In this revolutionary documentary, she gives audiences a first-person perspective on being a disabled individual in an able-bodied world, taking viewers on her journey of self-love, acceptance and community.

Film East is a multi-award-winning global film organization based in the East of England and the East Coast of the United States. Since its founding in Norwich, UK, in 2019, the group has provided a global platform for young audiences to experience and interact with film.
