May 24, 2024

A truly unique and free spirit has moved on to her next adventure. Ruby Catherine Adams, 82, of Rehoboth Beach passed away at home Saturday, May 18, 2024, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ruby was born Feb. 16, 1942, near Seaford, the daughter of loving parents Catherine and Roy Adams. Ruby is survived by a sister, Jane Plummer Adams of Annapolis, Md.; two nieces, Jenny Plummer-Welker (Greg) of Bowie, Md., and Jackie Sprow (Rodney) of Genesee, Pa.; a stepson, Reilly Gordon of Great Falls, Va.; a great-niece and great-nephews, Ellie Sprow (Garrett), Ezra Sprow, and Josey Sprow. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Lee Adams; and niece, Joanna Rae Plummer.

After graduating in 1960 from North Caroline High School, the first class to do so, Ruby obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. She loved being in the Delta Delta Sorority.

Ruby had a variety of careers, including teaching at both Sanford Prep School in Hockessin and Rehoboth High School, Rehoboth Beach, managing The Canyon restaurant in Rehoboth, helping domestic violence survivors, and working as both travel and real estate agents. Ruby was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following basketball, tennis and harness racing, especially the trotter JL Cruze. She had a passion for travel and tending to her houseplants. She was absolutely one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

The memorial service will be private and be determined at a later date.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to your local domestic violence support shelter in memory of Ruby.
