Concors named Cape’s Behavioral Health Professional of the Year
Sandra Concors has been named as the 2026 Behavioral Health Professional of the Year for the Cape Henlopen School District. This award recognizes school employees who are healthcare practitioners or human service providers for their outstanding service.
“Much like the teacher of the year and educational support professional of the year programs, the behavioral health professional of the year award relies on a nomination process,” said Dr. LouAnn Hudson, director of teaching and learning at Cape Henlopen School District. “Once an individual is nominated by a colleague or a parent in the district, they will go through a writing and interview process. Candidates are scored based on their interview, resume and written submission. We had an incredible group of candidates this year, and we are beyond thrilled to be able to recognize Mrs. Concors as our Behavioral Health Professional of the Year recipient.”
Concors began her career at Cape with the Sussex Consortium in 2022, where she continues to serve as a board-certified behavior analyst. As a BCBA, she is responsible for a variety of tasks including designing and implementing behavioral programs, recording and reporting on observation data, training and supervising direct care staff on behavior programs, participating in annual individualized education program meetings, ensuring treatment integrity, providing behavioral support to staff and students, conducting functional behavioral assessments, developing individualized behavior intervention plans, and providing appropriate staff and/or family training to ensure successful implementation, data recording and program monitoring. She works to identify training needs and conducts applied behavior analytic training sessions, provides ABA fieldwork supervision to BCBA candidates, and provides crisis intervention training.
“It has been a true honor working alongside Sandra for eight years,” said Dr. Vivian Bush, Sussex Consortium principal. “From the moment she arrived, she took on some of our most challenging cases, providing essential support to students with complex autism needs, emotional disabilities, and those in our preschool program. Her dedication, clinical insight and compassionate approach have been transformative, helping students overcome significant behavioral challenges and fostering an environment where they can thrive.”
Regan Hammond, Concors’ coworker at the Sussex Consortium, submitted a nomination for the award. “Mrs. Concors not only devotes her time during the school day to supporting the students she works with, but her own personal time as well,” Hammond noted on her application. “She oversees and supervises staff members, runs weekly meetings, assists with leading discussions for parent support groups and is always willing to share her knowledge with others. She’s truly deserving of this recognition.”
Concors has devoted her professional career to behavior analysis, having worked at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Bancroft NeuroHealth, New Behavioral Network and Archway Step By Step. She also provided school and home consultation before coming to Cape. In addition, she is an associate director/senior behavior analyst for ABC Consultants, has had her research published in nine publications, and has presented at international conferences from 2008 to 2024.
“I’m honored to represent the Cape Henlopen School District as their Behavioral Health Professional of the Year and to be recognized for doing something that I love,” said Concors. “It’s a privilege to work with so many wonderful students, families and colleagues at the Sussex Consortium. While being a BCBA comes with challenges, it is also incredibly rewarding, and I’m truly grateful for this recognition and to be a member of the Sussex Consortium team.”
The State Behavioral Health Professional of the Year ceremony will be held later this spring.
