The Cape volleyball team got back in the winning column April 30, with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-10 home victory over Smyrna.
Braxton Figgs and Bryce Patterson controlled the net with 10 kills each, while Keller Mancai smashed eight.
“Our energy was really high tonight as opposed to the [Caesar Rodney] match,” said Figgs, who roofed four blocks in the contest. “When we come out of the box and set the tone early, we are a great team. If we keep our foot on the throttle, we can play well.”
Junior setter Jason Harpel-Rickards spread the ball around with 34 assists.
“Tonight wasn’t our cleanest match, but at points that mattered most, we were able to capitalize and score some points,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “We’re using another different lineup, probably our fourth version this season, where we’re trying to figure out how to maximize each player’s offensive and defensive capabilities. We still haven’t been able to run it fully, whether due to sickness or unavailability.”
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Coupe said ensuring the team doesn’t make streaks of unforced errors is important.
