Bouncing back from an April 29 3-0 loss to Dover, the Delmarva Christian boys’ volleyball team set itself up for a chance at .500 with a 3-2 win over MOT Charter April 30.
The Royals dropped the first set 25-19, but battled back to even the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. Lopsided sets from both squads set up a fifth-set tiebreaker that Delmarva Christian won 15-12.
Senior Ethan Fels had 33 assists, while libero Caleb Holloway led the team with 27 digs. Junior Harrison Schlabach had a team-high five blocks and 23 kills, while junior Seth Mifflin finished second with 15 kills.
With just three games left, the win sets the Royals up for a chance to finish .500. The boys will use the momentum from the win for their few games, but also learned from their Dover loss.
“I thought our effort was good today, coming off of spring break,” said coach Jim Berger. “We just had some inopportune mistakes at inopportune times; we played a little reactive instead of proactive.”
Berger is confident in his team, but would like to see them view the game from a different perspective.
“It's hard to do, but to be a good volleyball player, a lot of times, you have to take your eye off the ball,” Berger said. “Watch the players on the other side, because they tell you what's going on.”
Delmarva Christian will host Sussex Academy at 4:15 p.m., Friday, May 2, and wrap up the home schedule with a Senior Night game against Delcastle at 4:15 p.m., Monday, May 5.
